Governor Northam secured a 5% pay increase for state employees to address ongoing recruitment and retention issues within the state workforce.

 

Governor Northam championed legislation protecting employees against worker misclassification and wage theft— and banning workplace discrimination against pregnant women, people with disabilities, and on the basis of sexual orientation.


Governor Northam signed the Virginia Values Act into law  — becoming the first Southern state to say No to discrimination.

  • This law makes the Commonwealth the first state in the South to enact comprehensive protections for the LGBTQ community against discrimination in housing, employment, public spaces, and
    credit applications.

Governor Northam signed legislation to strengthen apprenticeship programs in the Virginia Community College System, and legislation establishing the Worker Training Tax Credit.
