Governor Northam is making sure people receive the second chances they deserve.

  • Governor Northam has restored the civil rights and voting rights of more than 112,000 individuals —and he has granted more than 700 pardons.

  • That’s more than the last nine Governors combined.

Governor Northam established the Commission to Examine Racial Inequity in Virginia Law to identify laws — and repeal — outdated laws that have the effect of promoting or enabling racial discrimination or inequity.


Governor Northam proposed and signed into law elimination of the holiday honoring Confederate generals — and made state holidays of both Election Day and Juneteenth.

Governor Northam created Virginia’s first-ever Governor’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Board.

  • This collaboration led to new laws prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations on the on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Governor Northam championed ratification of the long-overdue Equal Rights amendment —making Virginia the 38th state to ratify.
